So you’ve decided that it’s time for you to take your very first fly fishing trip. You’ve been practicing your casting and you’ve got all your flies and gear ready to get on the water and land that big one you've been preparing for. What do you need to think about when planning this fly fishing trip?

The first thing to decide is where to go. There are many, many excellent places to go to improve your fly fishing skills. Some great locations to consider are all ove the mid west including Arkansas, Colorado, Montana Texas and Missouri. Of course I am a little partial to Wyoming. There you have plenty of uncrowded and productive waters to pick from. Pick a place that is readily accessible for you and that won’t break the bank when it comes time to pay for it.

If adventure is your game, look into taking a Canadian fly fishing trip. Most of the best fishing in Canada can be found in remote mountain lakes and streams with lodges only accessible by air or train. Most of the lodges will offer you trained guides to lead you to the fishing spots and transportation is included in the price of your stay. We’ve even seen one lodge that will give you use of its cabin and you are left on your own in the wilderness. This can be an amazingly liberating adventure!

Be sure and find a lodge where everything is included in the cost of your stay. This means transportation to and from the fishing spots, guided tours, along with your rooms. Many places have restaurants in their establishments, but you might want to find a cabin with full kitchen facilities where you can cook your own food when you come back from the river or lake.

Fly fishing trips are much more fun when you have a group of people who share your same interests. It’s a good idea to join a group who share the interest and try to plan a trip with them. Many organizations plan and launch trips on a regular basis. The friendship and camaraderie you will find can be a wonderful experience.

You can also combine your fly fishing with other things while on a trip. Think about where friends and family live. Can you spend a little time fishing and then, in your downtime, do a little visiting? Is there someplace you’ve always wanted to visit but never really had a reason why? Try taking a fly fishing trip there.

There are so many beautiful destinations you can go on fly fishing trips to. Pick a destination, contact a local fly shop, guide or outfitter.Plan well, which is part of the fun, and then just enjoy. You’ll be opening up a whole new world to yourself on a trip like this. And, you might just hook up with that fish of a life time.

One option is to get them a new rod and reel. This is going to be one of the more expensive options as reels can run anywhere from $200 to $1,000. Buying a rod can be a very personal decision for people who love fly fishing, so if you’re going to go this route with your gift, you’ll need to do your research. Talk to the persone you are buying for and get ideas about what their prefernces would be for the ideal fly rod or fly reel.

You could purchase a gift certificate to your local sporting goods or fishing store. This is a great choice for the fly fisherman as then they can pick out what they want or need. While some people feel gift certificates are impersonal, they can be a very welcome gift to the fly fisher. Most fly fishers have very definite oppinions about the equipment they use, so a gift certificate to their favorite fly shop is a great choice.

Consider getting a nice basket and filling it up with various fly fishing supplies. You can stock it with various flies, lines, and tools that your fly fisher can use during their fishing trips. If you’re not sure what types of flies and such to stock the basket with, just ask the clerk at the store. If you are at a fly shop, the people there will be familiar with the needs of your fly fisher and can recommend items that will be great for the waters that they fish most. This give you the chance to give a gift that they will use and love.

There are other beautiful gifts you can get as well. People who love fly fishing have a natural love of the outdoors and everything “fishy”. The organization Trout Unlimited has a great selection of fly fishing gifts including mugs, glasses, shirts, and hats with fish pictures on them. This can be another great gift idea.

Fly fishing apparel is just as important to the fly fisherman as the equipment they need. Fly fishing requires waders, vests, and boots. A good fly fishing vest can make a very thoughtful gift. Most fly fishermen claim you can never have too much equipment. Even if your fly fisherman has a vest, a new one might be just the ticket for a great gift.

Another great gift idea might be a waterproof digital camera. Since most fly fishers have that love for the natural beauty of the outdoors and nature, what could be a better gift then a camera for them to record the natural beauty of the outdoors and share it those times with their friends and family. A couple of years ago my family surprised me on my birthday with a new fly tying desk that I had been drooling over for quite some time. This was a gift that I loved and use all the time.

When giving a fly fishing gift, use your imagination. Great gift ideas that can please even the most experienced fly fisherman are unlimited. Ask him or her what they are wishing for and then fill that wish. You have lots of options. When giving a gift, it’s the thought that counts, of course, but when you consider all that’s involved in the sport of fly fishing, you’re sure to find a gift that’s more than appreciated!

The sport of fly fishing has been around for years and years. In medieval times, anglers fished for food, but the sport has evolved over the years to become a real test of skills and patience. Anyone who has become involved in the sport of fly fishing knows how addictive in can quickly become.

Fly fishing has definite differences from regular fishing. With regular or bait fishing, you use lures and often live bait to bring fish to your line and hook them. When fly fishing, you use a fly that resembles a real insect that the fish feed on naturally. The line is longer and you mimic the movement of the fly or insect on top of the water so that the fish thinks they are biting at a real insect. Fly fishing is the best way to imitate the natural food of the fish.

Casting is also different in fly fishing. RIn fly fishing, the length of the rod and weight of the line create the cast. The rod and line form a natural taper that allows you to use the momentum of the line to place the fly at the target. You put the fly out in the water and then draw it back several times so that the fish thinks the fly is landing on the water and then taking off again. With regular fishing, you cast your line and let it rest until the fish bites.

You can catch some pretty hefty fish using either method, However, even a smaller fish can give you a work out with the light
tackle that is the fly rod. A good sized trout is a great fighter and when you add that to the current that you must also battle when fishing a river or stream, a decent fish can feel like a monster..

Flies are made from natural materials in fly fishing while regular fishing utilizes latex and plastic lures made out of man-made materials or wood. Many avid fly fishermen say that the fish are much more attracted to the natural lure rather than the man-made ones. This, makes fly fishing an amazingly satisfying sport.

You can fish just about anywhere a local pond, a lake, or even a reservoir. When you are fly fishing, you will want to go where the fish are most plentiful. That means traveling (perhaps) to rivers and streams where fish like trout and walleye are known to live. The challenge in fly fishing lies in making the fly look real to the fish below water.

Fly fishing in remote places like Alaska and Canada are great vacation getaways. You can plan a fly fishing trip to many different spots including Mexico, South America, and even Russia. That can be a great adventure, much more so than just
fishing your local lake or pond.

Chess has been called the sport of kings, but many avid fly fishermen consider fly fishing to be the real sport of kings. It takes skill, finesse, and a lot of patience to get good at fly fishing. Thousands of anglers couldn’t agree more. When you’ve been fly fishing once, it'll be in your blood and you’ll want to go back over and over and over again.

You can get books that tell you the best places to fish at and the most satisfying fly fishing destinations. Fly fishing books are great resources especially if you want to learn how to tie your own flies. One of the first things you need to know in fly tying is what the flies look like that you’re trying to mimic. When the book comes with illustrations, you can easily match your fly to the picture in the book.

Online books or e-books are another great way to get information about fly fishing. There are many e-books available for download and can be a great source of information. Look for the ones that will fit your needs. If you’re a beginner, you may want a comprehensive guide in every aspect of fly fishing. If you’re more experienced, you may want to hone your skills a little and look for new tips to make you a better fly angler.

When choosing a fly fishing book, look at the author first. Are they qualified to write this book? What experience do they have in the sport? Can they provide you with compelling reasons to take his or her advice? You will get more accurate information from a person who has personal experience in the many aspects offly fishing to offer.

Is the book easy to read? When you are reading a book filled with technical language, it can be overwhelming and it isn’t likely to help you much. The author should define unfamiliar language early on in the book and keep reminding you throughout the text what they are referring to.

Don’t opt for long winded books with ton's of pages like War and Peace. They aren’t likely to give you much good advice plus the boredom factor has to come into play. A lot of great information can be packed into a few pages. Opt for the shorter book rather than the longer one so you get what you pay for!

Fly fishing books are wonderful sources of information when you are learning about this sport. They can also offer good entertainment for those times that you can't get to the water. Find a book that you are comfortable reading that also gives you what you are looking for. The choices are vast, so go online or get to the bookstore today and learn what you need to about the sport of fly fishing!

There are more and more fly fishing women on the stream every year. Have women finally found the the beauty and tranquility that goes hand in hand with fly fishing?

Fly fishing women wear the same gear, they cast the same way, they tie their own flies; fly fishing
women are found on any waters where the sport is practiced. There are a few well-known
names amongst them. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, until her death, was an avid
fly fishing woman.

Organizations that are specifically designed for women who fly fish are to be found in
almost every state. There are women guides, women authors of fly fishing books, and
women can tell tales of fishing woes along with the best of them. Fly fishing is definitely
not an exclusively male sport.

How do novice fly fishing women get started?

If you want to become one of the fly fishing women, it is not hard. Join a fly fishing club
and learn the art from other anglers. If you are shy about being a novice in mixed
company there are women only groups around, or find a friend to go with you.

There are also women's fly fishing classes held at some community colleges. Private
organizations sometimes have at least one female instructor. Your local sports store
should be able to help you find a suitable class or group.

Fly fishing women as guides

The process of finding fly fishing women who also a guide is the same as find a male
guide. Do your homework by checking out her experience. Ask for references from other
customers.

Does this guide spend a lot of time on the waters she is going to take you? Quite frankly,
I believe that the sex of a guide doesn't matter a hoot as long as he or she knows his or
her stuff.

If you feel inhibited by working with a male guide, ask for a woman by all means. Just
remember that a guide is no guide at all if he or she is unable to give you a meaningful
experience on the water.

Equipment designed for fly fishing women

The manufacturing community is at last recognizing that fly fishing women make up a
decent percentage of the general angling world.

Gone are the days when women had to manage with over-sized and ill designed clothing.
Manufacturers are making waders, boots, and fishing vests for female anglers. They are
not just scaled down versions of men's apparel, they fit the female shape.

However, that does not mean that all women's fishing apparel will fit perfectly. You need
to go into a sports store that stocks the item you are looking for and try it on.

Yes, you can look a bit foolish, but if you intend spending a lot of time in the water,
waders that don't fit comfortably are going to be a problem. You can get them custom-
made if you are willing to pay extra (up to $100 is not unexpected).

Depending on your shape, you might find that men's waders fit you better than women's.
Again comfort on the water is what you are looking for, so buy the outfit that is right for
you.

The same thing applies to boots. I like to buy bootless waders. I purchase the boots
separately, trying them on with the thick socks I wear while fishing. A pair of boots
bought without room for the socks will make you miserable.

Glamour and fly fishing women

Sorry ladies, this is not a Miss (Mrs.) America sport. Fly fishing women are not often
seen in color coordinated, straight out of the salon, fashions. Muted tones of muddied
greens and browns are the thing in this sport. Fish are less likely to be spooked by these
camouflage colors.

Fly fishing clothing is designed to be practical and efficient. At the end of the day, form
fitting waders just make you darned uncomfortable. They also make it really hard to bend
down, or kneel, or even scramble up the river banks.

Remember that perfumes can transfer from your hands to the flies you are using. Fish are
attracted by fishy smells, but really shun Chanel #5 and the like.

Books written by fly fishing women

Fly fishing women have written books and articles that deal with all aspects of the fishing
craft. You'll find information on everything from buying your first rod to tying your own
flies.

Although the information in these books is mostly generic, that is, suitable for any fly
fishing person, there are some issues that are especially important for women.

When choosing a rod, for example, some women might find it more suitable to go with a
lighter weight or one that has a smaller grip. That being said, there are women who can
handle heavier rods with remarkable expertise. Go with what you can manage
efficiently.

Reading a few articles and books written by fly fishing women will give you a unique point of view on the angler's art.

The number of fly fishing women is greater than ever. Industry resources are increasing
in response. When your significant other announces that he is off on another of his nights
out with the boys, go pack your rod and tackle and head out for the nearest stream. You'll
likely find you're not alone.

Fly fishing information is everywhere you turn. From book stores and librarys to the magazines that come to your mail box to the internet. There is plenty of resources to get all the information you need for more productive time on the water.

Fly fishing information is prolific. It arrives on our doorsteps in magazines. It is found on
the shelves of libraries and bookstores. It appears magically on our computer screens
when we enter an assortment of keywords. It comes through conversations on or by the
river.

Searching books for fly fishing information

Whether you are interested in a particular piece of fly fishing information or a general
idea of the art, there are books where you can usually find what you are seeking.

A search through a library catalog will disclose a number of books devoted to fly fishing.
Visiting your local bookstore will also show numbers of magazines and books on the
subject. Many general fishing books will also have sections on fly fishing.

My local bookstore doesn’t take issue with people reading the books on the shelves; they
even provide comfortable chairs for the purpose. They understand that if I browse a book
and like it, I’ll buy it. By allowing me to browse at my leisure, they know I’ll buy more.

If you enjoy learning from books, read up on fly fishing and then go test your knowledge
on the water.

Fly fishing information on the internet

An Internet check gives me a great deal of fly fishing information. I find it particularly useful
when looking for equipment such as rods and reels. After I have made a limited list, I go
to a store to have a look at the real thing.

Articles on the Internet are full of current information about what is happening on fly
fishing waters all around the globe. It’s a good place to get information if you are
planning on a fly fishing trip away from your local area.

The greatest asset of the internet is its ability to have up-to-date information. Data is
being uploaded every minute of the day which means you can always find something new
on fly fishing. Advice is not all provided by experts so try it out before you commit it to
your fly fishing arsenal.

It is possible to find information on casting techniques, fly tying, clothing, equipment,
and the list goes on and on.

Fly fishing information from the water

Some of the most (and least) reliable fly fishing information comes from other anglers
you encounter on the river. An old timer can give you tips that you’ll not find anywhere
else. If you are a beginning fly fisher, you should consider hiring a fly fishing guide or taking some
fly fishing classes that will teach more in a short time than you can hope to learn in a lifetime on the
practical techniques of the sport.

A book or article cannot tell you if you are making mistakes in casting. It takes another
party watching your technique to tell you if you need to make adjustments. Professionals
and other experienced fishermen will also be able to show you the flies in your tackle box
that match the insects on the water.

You can study a book on the art of reading a river, but it is sometimes difficult to know
whether you are looking at a riffle or a run when you get to the water. A knowledgeable
guide or fishing buddy can point out the differences.

You can find fly fishing information on all aspects from purchasing your first rod to
building your own. You can learn how to buy flies and how to tie them. You’ll learn what
you need as opposed to what you want in your kit.

Whatever information you get off the water, it is not much use until you try it against
wary fish.

Just for fun I tried a Google search on fly fishing information. Not wise. The season’s
begun; the grass is shoulder high, and I’m just reading article 3,754 of 3,010,000!

Winter fly fishing requires some extra precautions and different dress but can provide some excellent trout fishing. Some of my most memorable fishing trips were when the weather is cold and there was a blanket of fresh snow on the ground.

If you don’t mind braving the cold or wearing several layers of clothing, winter fly fishing can attract some nice fish to the fly. An added bonus is that you won’t be crowded out on popular rivers and the fishing can be surprisingly productive.

Before you go winter fly fishing

Winter fly fishing 101 requires you to check regulations before you head out into icy weather. Some rivers and lakes are closed for the winter season; others are open with special regulations.

Make sure that the water you intend going to is fishable. This means checking weather reports and water conditions. Fishing isn’t all that much fun when ice is floating by even if you are wearing suitable clothing. Some waters get winter kill. It is senseless to fish them.

Winter can not only kill the fish, but can kill you too if you don’t take special precautions. A dunk in the river, dangerous at any time, is especially so in winter when hyperthermia sets in very quickly.

Clothing for winter fly fishing

Layers, layers, layers; this is the secret to winter fly fishing clothing. Thermal clothing topped with fleece under your waders will insulate you pretty well. You can always remove excess layers if the day warms up.

If you wear neoprene waders, they’ll provide warmth without too much extra clothing, but as I wear breathables all year round, layers of warm clothing underneath gives me the warmth I need.

Don’t forget your hands and head. Gloves can be a nuisance, but fingers get chilled so I keep a couple of hand warmers in my pockets. You will lose a lot of heat from your head and a good warm hat is essential.

I usually wear a couple of pairs of socks – a case for having boots that are a generous fit. Standing in icy water will soon numb your feet if you don't have inadequate insulation.

Winter fly fishing techniques

Trout and other species become sluggish in cold water. They tend to hold in the bottom layers of the water, sometimes coming into the shallows if the sun warms the area, or if there is a reasonable hatch occurring.

Deep nymph fishing is the most productive fishing method in the winter. I like to use a sinking tip line that will quickly take the fly to where the fish are. If you are not using a sinking line, try adding some split shot weights to your fly. Casting is a little more difficult but the fly will sink. As is the case with any big streamer or heavy fly, slow down your casting stroke and you'll eliminate a lot of knots before they happen.

Cold and lethargic fish are unlikely to rise to take a single fly. They save their energy for either a large hatch or a particularly tempting morsel. Woolly Buggers can be effectively fished using a slow retrieve.

Before the spring run off, rivers are generally clear so you will need to make sure that your line does not spook wary fish. A long and light weight leader is ideal in these conditions.

If you intend to release your fish, take extra time to revive it before letting it go. A fish that has fought against your line takes longer to revive in winter conditions than it does during the warmer weather.

There is no need to hang up your fishing rods because the cold weather has hit. Winter fly fishing can give you a unique fishing experience. This is the time to fine tune your skills as you have to entice sluggish and wary fish. With patience and close attention to detail, your winter fly fishing trip can give you a whole new perspective.

Trout lakes often offer the fly fishing angler a chance at trophy trout. They must be fished differently than in a river. The trout have to search for their fod in a trout lake rather than letting it come to them as it would in a stream.

I grew up in a family where fishing and camping took on an almost religious
significance. The best of both worlds happens when I am out on a trout lake with fly rod
in hand.

Fishing trout lakes

Lakes are considered still water. This means that the trout have to actively search out
their food, it doesn't come to them as is does on moving water. The exception is at stream
inlets or outlets. Currents there will carry insects to waiting fish.

If there is structure around the edge of the lake, try fishing there first. Large solitary trout
sometimes hold in areas where fallen trees and other debris provide cover.

If you see a lot of rises out in the middle of the lake you are probably watching smaller
trout. Larger fish tend to stay in the depths and will only be tempted to come to the
surface for a large hatch or a large insect.

In deep lakes it pays to use a fast sinking line to get your fly down to where the trout are
holding. A short leader will work on a fast sinking line. If you are fishing the surface a
longer leader, 10 to 13 feet is usual.

Alpine trout lakes

The fun part, and challenge, of fishing high country trout lakes is that they are all
different. One lake may be deep and almost structure free, another only shallow with lots
of weed and structure.

Trout sometimes hang out in the shallows where insects drop from bank side vegetation.
Cutthroat and rainbow trout in lakes will sometimes school and travel around the lake in
search of food.

Trout will come in close to the water's edge looking for food. It pays to thoroughly fish
the shallows. If there is a decent hatch going on, even big trout will be tempted.

Weather in the high country can change quickly so you need to be prepared for all
conditions. It seems to me that high country trout fishing is best when the weather turns
cool, wet and a little windy.

Fishing trout lakes from tubes

More and more trout lakes are being fished from float tubes. The main thing to remember
is that your fly rod needs to be long enough so that your back cast doesn't hit the water.

Trout lake fishing from float tubes can be very productive especially when fishing towards the
shoreline. Once you are used to maneuvering the tube, you can quietly close in on weeds
and structure where fish are likely holding.

The flies that work on trout lakes

If there is a large hatch on the trout lake and the fish are feeding, use a fly that imitates
what is hatching. Streamers work if you are searching for big trout. Use a streamer in
deeper water on a sinking line and short leader.

Nymphs, caddis flies and nymphs are commonly found hatching on lakes. Fish these
insects with a floating line. If you are fishing mid-depths, use a slightly weighted fly.

If you are looking for a change from rivers and streams, try fishing trout lakes. There are
lakes where you'll discover a variety of trout; cutthroats, rainbows, browns, and brookies.
Not all fishing lakes hold only trout, so don't be surprised if a bass or bluegill has a look
at your fly.

The practice of catch and release helps to insure there will be fishing to be enjoyed by our children and their children. The proper methods of handling and releasing are important and help to kepp the released fish healthy and give them the best chance for survival to fight again.

With the numbers of anglers increasing every season, many fishermen are practicing
catch and release tactics. If you take a guided fishing trip you will often find that this
procedure is mandatory.

Along with catch and release goes the practice of selective harvest. In areas where the
fish population is becoming too dense, the managing authority will ask the angler to keep
all or part of his limit. This allows the remaining fish to stay healthy and grow.

Practicing careful catch and release techniques will ensure that the released fish will be in
the best possible condition to survive. Fly fishing has proved to be the most effective in
ensuring the survival of released fish.

The dos and don'ts of catch and release fishing

The longer you play a fish, the more exhausted it will become, and the less likely it is to
survive when released back to the water. Good catch and release techniques encourage
you to land your fish as quickly as possible.

Use the strongest fly fishing tippet practical to expedite landing of the fish. If you must use a net,
make sure that the net has a soft cotton bag with small holes. The smaller the holes, the less
likely the fish is to get snagged.

Catch and release procedures: removing the hook

It is better to keep the fish in the water as you remove the hook. If this is not possible
make sure that you wet your hands before holding it as the chemicals on your skin can
harm the fish.

Any hook that has been swallowed or is deeply embedded should be left in the trout. Its
natural juices, and time, will eventually dissolve the hook. Just clip the leader as close to
the hook as possible.

Speaking of hooks, using barbless types or crimping the barb on others will allow the
hook to be removed more easily. When I tie my flies, one of the first things i do is pinch the barb fown on the hook before I make my first wrap. Long-nosed pliers are great helpers when removing
hooks. Regulations in some areas require the use of barbless hooks.

Trout CPR for the catch and release program

Trout CPR involves gently supporting the trout in the water so that it can become
reoxygenated. Hold the fish right side up with one hand under the tail and the other under
the belly.

Face the fish upstream and let it go once it is making determined efforts to escape.
Reviving the trout can take some time so be patient.
Any fish that is bleeding from its gills is not likely to survive so keep that one.

Practicing a catch and release program can ensure that the trout populations will be
around for the next generations of anglers. My own philosophy is to release all wild or
native trout. I sometimes keep stocked fish for my table.

Papeback; 224 pages.

All fishermen have little secret strategies that they believe give them the advantage over all others on the water. Most of these are nothing more than the fly fishing tips listed here. The secret to successful fishing is remembering the basics.

Fly fishing tips to keep your cast on target

Fly fishing is casting. If you cannot cast, you will not catch fish. Fly fishing tips that help improve your cast are well worth following.

Practice, practice, practice is the secret to a good cast. This is the way you will develop a smooth and accurate presentation. Go find a park and throw a line at a target.

If your line is landing at a heap in front of you, you are not stopping your cast early enough. Your rod should stop at the 11 o'clock position. You can lower the rod after the line has lain out smoothly on the water.

Most casting mistakes are caused by one or more of the following: your wrist is bending as you cast, you have not developed a relaxed rhythm to your cast, or you are letting your rod go beyond the 1 o'clock 11 o'clock positions.

Remember it is the line that carries the fly into position. You need to have the line flowing smoothly to present the fly right in the zone.

Short and accurate casting is preferable to long casts to empty water.

Approaching the water: the vital fly fishing tip

You can have all the skills in the world but if you lose the fish before you get to the water, you'll be a disenchanted fisherman. The most important fly fishing tip I can give you to prevent this is to stop, look, and think.

Stop before you get to the stream, several yards back from the bank in fact. Lay down your rod and check out the water. Where are the fish likely to be holding and how can you fish those areas the most effectively?

Fly fishing is a thinking sport. Jumping into the water and casting haphazardly will not fill your creel, or please any other fishers nearby. Experienced fishermen and women can spend as much as twenty minutes assessing the waters before making their first cast.

Fly fishing tips: a knotty problem

If a knot is not seated properly it will fail. Too many turns around a standing line will not allow the knot to draw down properly. Too few turns and the knot will slip.

Lubricating the knot as you pull it tight will secure it better. Saliva works just great.

Learn to tie the most commonly used knots with your eyes shut. When the light is poor out on the river, or you forgot your glasses, you'll still be able to manage.

A fly fishing tip for understanding how fish hold

We often hear that fish face upstream but this is not necessarily so. The fly fishing tip to learn here is that fish lie into the current. Eddies and other factors turn the currents around. Fish holding in these waters could well be facing downstream.

Check out the stream so that your approach is from the right direction.

Fish often lie under banks for cover. If you spook one of these it is likely to spread panic throughout the rest of the waters. Look before you step.

Approach the river from shade if possible; you'll be less visible to the fish. Wearing muted color clothes will also help camouflage you.

Fly fishing tips for waders

Using a wading staff will keep you stable in fast currents and let you know what's going on underneath where you can't see.

Slowly does it. Take all the time you need to get into position when wading. In quiet water you should be so slow that the water barely shows your presence. If you are creating waves, you are wading too fast.

General fly fishing tips

When you are in a tight spot and need to make a short cast, hold your rod up by the butt guide. This will have the effect of shortening your rod and make the cast easier.

A small hand movement can create a lot of movement at the end of your rod. Remembering this will help you control your casting.

Presentation is more important than food types. Many fish will rise to any tasty looking morsel if it is presented properly. A poorly presented fly will likely be ignored.

Trout are not smart, but they can be easily spooked.

There are many fly fishing tips to be learned. Talking to local fishermen and knowledgeable salespeople at fishing stores can provide you with an arsenal of fishing advice. Look it over, try it out, and use the tips that work for you.
